Live folk music at Plaza Garibaldi

Romantic and picturesque, the after-dark scene at Plaza Garibaldi is not to be missed. Starting around sundown, bands of musicians-for-hire from all over Mexico crowd the plaza in their regional costumes. For a few pesos, they'll play classic songs for anyone who wants to listen.

It's particularly popular with young couples, who will pay for their favorite love songs, and listen while dancing or just lingering in a quiet embrace. Bystanders who didn't pay for the song are welcome to stand and listen, and on the more upbeat numbers they're quite likely to join in the singing as well.

Facing the square are several traditional restaurants and cafes, as well as a building that houses a number of restaurants together.

Getting there

The square is about a fifteen-minute walk from the Bellas Artes Metro station. There's also a Garibaldi station but the distance is about the same and the walk far less pleasant.
