Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral is not only the oldest cathedral in both North and South America, but almost five hundred years after its construction begun, it remains the largest as well.

Since it took over two centuries to complete, the architecture reflects generations of change in technology and design, making it a particularly interesting building to explore in depth.

Outside the front doors, in Zócalo Square (also known as Plaza de la Constitución), you will often find fairs and other public events, and you'll definitely find vendors selling all sorts of local and regional treats.
